I took it out of the box. So beautifully braided in black and red with a little round pendant in oxidised silver, this neck piece was a favourite. In fact, I would not use it much as I feared overuse would kill it. Today after years I picked it out lovingly from the box. I mused if I ought to give it away to my niece or that other girl. I wore it and at the end of the day when I unclasped it, the chain broke. The threads gave away. It had decided its own fate. I did not hesitate to throw it. I did not consider repairing it. It had lived its life. It gave me its answer. Swapna Nair April 2023
