On 20 th January 2024, Case Study Circle (CSC) embarked on a learning odyssey that not only enriched our counselling knowledge but also left an indelible mark in our hearts and minds.
Soulfree INSPIRE Centre, at Thiruvannamalai is a charitable organization that was born out of a dream to provide hope for the severely disabled. Senior Physiotherapist Mr. Piraisoodan not only greeted us but also shared his knowledge about various treatments offered to severely disabled patients and the rehabilitation processes followed at the centre.
Mr. Dilip Santhosh and Mr. Krishnakanth supported our trip by giving us a facility tour of the Psychotherapy department, Vocational training, Ayurveda, Nursing, Ultrasound, Aerodynamic, Magnetotherapy, Hydrotherapy, terrace garden and other rehabilitation methods specially designed for a person with spinal-cord injury.
Mr. Chandiran an in-house Counselor gave us insight regarding the emotional state of the patients and their caretaker during counselling. Our CSC facilitator Dr. Saras Bhaskar facilitated a group counseling to the immediate family members who were staying at the centre, on ways to handle and overcome setbacks.
We were then divided into four groups each assigned with a set of in-patients. We provided an orientation about psychological well-being and activities as well as individual counselling for some of them.
One of the most memorable aspects of our field trip was the opportunity to see another perspective of studies which was essential in our counselling practice. Concepts that we heard were witnessed by us in real-world contexts.
